YORK basketball player Donna Smith, 14, has been awarded a £150 grant to help with her travel and equipment costs.
It is a result of a new partnership between the Rotary International and SportsAid, the Charity for Sport, called 'Creating Champions in your Community".
SportsAid (Yorkshire & Humberside) identified Donna as a worthy recipient, while Rotary Club York Vikings provided the grant through local members' fund-raising efforts.
She is pictured above receiving her cheque at the Beechwood Close Hotel in Shipton Road from Brian Nuttell, president of the Rotary Club of York Vikings.
'Creating Champions in your Community' is a nationwide scheme and David Liddiat, the current RIBI President, hailed the initiative.
He said: "Rotary is always seeking to support the celebration of achievements by young people."
