HAVING been inundated in recent weeks with advertisements for double-glazing, loft insulation, condenser boilers and questionnaires regarding saving energy - all council-instigated with a view to cutting emissions into the atmosphere, and energy-saving - I was amused to read that £36,000 worth of Christmas lights were to be switched on from November 13, set to shine for at least six weeks!
How's that for an example of saving energy?
The money could surely be better spent. People will still shop for Christmas whether or not there are sleighs and bells lit up around the city.
Well, they will if they can reach the city considering the traffic problems and the threat of more floods.
