Malton Foods has been bought by Grampian Country Foods Group for £33.5 million, the new owners confirmed today.

The company, whose assets include Malton Bacon Factory, will now be called Grampian Country Pork.

The purchase, completed in the early hours of Saturday morning, ends months of speculation about the future of the factory.

Alistair Cox, of GCFG, declined to speculate on job security for the 2,240 employees at the factory, but confirmed that Grampian was moving in some of its own people this week.

Grant Mackie, chief executive of Grampian Pork Division, said: "We are extremely pleased to have completed this purchase.

"The Malton business clearly has great potential, with an excellent customer portfolio and a keen and skilled workforce.
