THE news that up to 6,000 jobs could be created by a proposed new development at Monks Cross is welcome when two of York's traditional employment opportunities, confectionery and the railways, are in long term decline. However, users of York's outer ring road will be wondering how an additional 6,000 cars will be accommodated.
York is enjoying a new housing and jobs boom - however the transport infrastructure as with the rest of the country is bust. New Labour has a ten-year transport plan: maybe the council could follow suit and promise no jams tomorrow.
