WE feel that the A64 underpass is totally unnecessary and the money could have been spent elsewhere. The only problem at Copmanthorpe was the lights which were highly dangerous. We cannot understand why they weren't removed years ago and Copmanthorpe residents made to use the existing flyover. Why anyone wanted to stop all the traffic on the busy A64 just to drive across beats me.

The flyover bridge is only at the other end of Top Lane. Surely updating and enlarging this bridge would have been sufficient for the Copmanthorpe residents. Living in Bishopthorpe we have to go a long way round to get into our village and at the moment we can't get in or out because of the traffic on the A64 and on Bishopthorpe Road.

My husband is a builder and the traffic is adding hours to his day, this costs money as jobs are not getting done.

The people of York deserve better than this, tempers are getting frayed. The council only seem to be interested in tourists being put off coming to York. Do you blame them?

...YOUR article on alternative routes from the A64 (October 15) suggested Malton to Leeds using the outer ring-road. The outer ring-road carries traffic from Strensall/Huntington, Haxby then Wigginton towards Acomb. From 7.30am it is reduced to a very slow crawl because of the roundabout works at Clifton.

To add to this chaos is ludicrous.

On Monday I travelled A64 east from Bishopthorpe to Hopgrove at 9am, both east and west carriageways were reasonably quiet. The A1237 from Hopgrove was at a crawl right round to Haxby.

If Bilbrough and Bishopthorpe do not want the traffic why should we at the north east side have to contend with it?
