YET more roadworks delays are on the way for motorists in the York area as engineers try to stop drivers skidding.

The Highways Agency says a £680,000 resurfacing scheme will start on Monday on the A1079 between Dunnington and Bishop Burton.

The project aims to improve skid resistance at several locations on the road, including Dunnington, an area west of Wilberfoss and another area east of Market Weighton.

The work comes as traffic continues to be disrupted by roadworks on the A64 at Copmanthorpe.

But the agency says its work on the busy A1079 will be restricted and will be carried out only between 9.30am and 3.30pm to avoid peak traffic flows and minimise congestion.

"Drivers should be aware that the work will involve lane closures and a ten mph speed restriction throughout the area of the work," said project manager Brian Dobson.

Meanwhile, the £2 million scheme to improve and enlarge the A19 roundabout at Rawcliffe on the York Outer Ring Road moves into one of its final phases next week, when work begins to lay the final running surface for the new roundabout and approach roads.

The work will be carried out at night to minimise congestion with traffic lights operating each evening from 9.30pm to 6.30am. Some lane closures will occasionally be required outside these times to allow phasing of the work.

This part of the work begins on Monday, and is due to be completed by Saturday, November 3.

Contractors are also currently working on the underpass approach ramp and retaining walls. The roundabout lighting scheme and construction of the nearby park and ride car park extension are also nearing completion.

The new enlarged roundabout, which should reduce congestion, is due to be completed by the end of November.
