SCARBOROUGH boss Ian Kerr is still hoping to sign striker Cherif Diallo before tomorrow's trip to take on former League rivals Hereford United at Edgar Street.

Diallo scored nine times for the Seasiders last season and is currently without a club after failing to earn a contract during a trial spell at Exeter City.

And Kerr confirmed that following brief talks with the player yesterday he is looking to complete a deal in time to include Diallo in his squad as Scarborough seek a second away win of the season to climb out of the Conference's bottom three.

If Diallo does sign, he could partner leading scorer Darryn Stamp in a potent-looking attack. Stamp has missed the last four games with a hamstring problem and although a return is still touch-and-go, he has been named in the travelling party.

However, there is no place for the injured Steve Brodie or Shaun Rennison, who completes a three-match ban.

Central defender Aaron Wilford is also doubtful with a calf strain, but Kerr continues to look on the bright side.

"I've said to the players that the dividing line between winning and losing is very thin and it's a question of having the confidence in their ability and going out to make things happen," he said.

Mid-table Hereford are facing cash problems of their own and owner-chairman Graham Turner recently stepped down as first-team boss to concentrate on commercial affairs, the former Aston Villa and Wolves chief being replaced by Phil Robinson as player-manager.

Scarborough from: Woods, Atkinson, Wilford, Jones, Faure, O'Riordan, Stoker, Blunt, Elliott, Windross, Pounder, Stamp, Fitzsimmons, Jewell, Keegan, Newton.

* YORK City's intermediates are on their travels tomorrow as they seek to get back to winning ways at Doncaster Rovers in a Football League Youth Alliance North East Conference tie, kick-off 11am.
