HUNDREDS of people are expected to visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway this weekend to see and participate in its wartime weekend event.
Celebrations, code-named Operation Jolly Miller, will see Pickering step back in time to the war years and life on the home front.
Over 650 re-enactors dressed in authentic costume, as well as military vehicles and equipment from the era, will colour the whole line through Pickering, Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont.
Geoff Pearson, chairman of Pickering Station group volunteers, said: "There are tons of things for people to see and do - it is probably the most important event of the year at the railway."
In Pickering town centre, a parade of about 80 military vehicles and 150 people will take place at 11.45am on Saturday. The event begins at noon today and continues until 4pm on Sunday.
