York and District Indoor Bowls Club won all three of their matches against Hornsea in different competitions, all on the same day.

In the 'Top Ten' competition, York beat Hornsea 82-57 and gained 14 points out of a possible 15.

Only the top team in the Yorkshire group goes through to the next stage of the competition. York won the group last year.

Playing at home, John Emmerson won his singles match 21-11 and Iain Boyle's rink won the fours 23-12.

Playing away, David Stroughair's triples team won 21-17, Hornsea taking the last three ends.

Paul Mooring and Graham Instone were 8-1 down after five ends of the pairs, but recovered to lead 12-9 seven ends later only for the home team to score a three on the next end to level the scores.

The game remained tight and the York duo went into the last end leading 17-16 but Hornsea got one shot to tie the score at 17-17.

In a new event, the English Women's Indoor Bowling Association Ladies Over-60's Double Rinks competition, York beat Hornsea 69-29.

Pat Wilson, Clarice Johnston, Brenda Love and Marjorie Elvidge were 25-2 ahead after only eight ends. This included two sevens and a six. They then eased off slightly and went on to win 32-12.

The other York home rink of Pat Bracken, Joyce Gee, Pat Lofthouse and Maureen Robinson led 18-1 after only seven ends and went on to win 36-17.

York's Under-18 team continued their good start to the season by gaining their second win, this time 21-19 away to last season's group winners Hornsea.

Philip Scott, Josh Cahill and Katrina Smith won 13-10 even though their opponents scored five shots on the last end.

In the other rink Liam Cahill, Adam Tattersall and Philip Herridge won four out of the last five ends but lost 10-9. York picked up four points to Hornsea's two thanks to the aggregate win.

New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club's run in the Denny Cup was short-lived when they were well beaten 92-67 by Hull.

The only successul New Earswick rink was Ray Clark's. Clark, Ralph Tiplady, Bob Howland and Stephen Long won 20-17.

In the other New Earswick rink playing at home Bill Waldie's team were 21-8 down with four ends to play but lost by only 21-17.

The damage was done at Hull, where Tony Abbot's team lost 30-15 and Dave Birch's rink lost 24-15, including five on the last end. New Earswick now go into the Plate Competition.

Yorkshire's team to play Northumberland in the Northern Counties League at York Indoor Bowls Club on Saturday includes nine York players and is captained by New Earswick's Anthony Scruton.

York Ladies play Selby in a Yorkshire League match at York Indoor Bowls Club on Saturday. starting at noon. New Earswick Ladies are at home to Ryedale in the same competition on Saturday.

On Sunday, starting at 10am, New Earswick stage four National Under-25 County Double Rinks matches.

Yorkshire's team to play Cumbria includes New Earswick's Stephen Long and York club players Chris Lea and John Walker.

The other matches are: Northumberland v Durham, Lincolnshire v Lancashire, and Derbyshire v Nottinghamshire.

In the Top Ten competition on Sunday, York play Selby (noon start) and New Earswick take on Metrodome.
