MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of York have moved to a new venue for the first time in 35 years.
The club is now meeting at the Churchill Hotel, Bootham. Since 1966, Rotarians had met at the Royal York Hotel to eat lunch, exchange news and listen to guest speakers.
The change of venue was precipitated by the extensive alterations and refurbishment of the function rooms at the Royal York, scheduled to take months to complete.
Members gathered for the weekly meeting at The Churchill Hotel for the first time last Friday and were delighted by their reception.
"The staff were marvellous and made us very welcome, and the food was also very good," said George Duddridge, club press officer and editor of the newsletter Rotagraph. During the meeting a collection was held for the appeal to help families hit by the U.S. terrorist atrocities.
Meanwhile, Alex McIntosh of Nether Poppleton, York, has completed a five-day leadership course sponsored by the Rotary Club of York Ainsty.
The course develops the skills of young people identified as future leaders. Physically and mentally demanding, the course is run at an outdoor activity centre at Hebden Bridge.
Rotary is very grateful for the support of teachers and youth leaders who took the trouble to nominate candidates for these places. For further information contact Alan Stow on 01904 707358.
