MENWITH Hill protesters gathered outside the US spy base last night in the wake of the bomb attacks, waving flags which said: "Not in Our Name".
Protester Anni Rainbow said the world was now in a "really frightening situation."
"What we can do is so little," she said, "but it just seemed that with George Bush saying the whole world is behind the action, it seemed terribly important that somebody was up there saying no, we're not all in favour of war."
She said what happened on September 11 had been a 'terrible crime' but she said meeting it with further violence was not the answer.
An attempt had to be made to address some of the underlying injustices that had led to it, she said.
She added it was impossible to imagine what people living in Afghanistan were going through now.
"There has to be a better way of dealing with things than this," she said.
Protesters will be outside the base again on Tuesday night.
