DRUG dealers across North Yorkshire are to be targeted by a new police drug squad which began operating in the county today.
The 20-strong squad aims to tackle dealers and suppliers, particularly those who pedal Class A drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, although dealers of Class B drugs, such as cannabis, will also be targeted.
Three teams, consisting of a detective sergeant and five detective constables, are now based in each of the force's three areas.
Detective Inspector Ian Willis, who heads the squad, said: " We now have a dedicated unit able to stifle the availability of drugs in the county."
