HARRY POTTER fever was brewing at a York school with only weeks to go before the release of the film version of the best-selling book series.

Canon Lee School, at Clifton, turned over the usual timetable for its Year 7 and Year 8 students to a day of magic and wizardry to celebrate the last day of National Children's Book Week.

Pupils and staff arrived at school in witch and wizard costumes and a Sorting Assembly was held first thing, courtesy of the drama club.

Events ran throughout the day and included drama activities based on solving the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets and art work making Hogwarts house banners. The day rounded off a week of Harry Potter activities, which also included the Marauders' Map and mazes in maths and The Sorting Song in music.

The events were organised by Kath Jordan, head of English, and Jan Hepworth, the school librarian.
