NORTH Yorkshire and York runners shone in the Manchester Marathon, where organisers used the course scheduled for next year's Commonwealth Games Marathon.
The overall winner was Bingley Harrier, Chris Carriss in a time of two hours 25 minutes 33 seconds. He was little more than a minute ahead of Ian Fisher (Otley AC), several times winner of Knavesmire Harriers' Brass Monkey half-marathon.
Leading local runner was Knavesmire Harriers' Steve Boynton in 33rd place in the excellent time of 2-48-59. Club-mate Brian Latto was second in the over-65 category.
Knavesmire Harriers' Mandy Clarke and Fiona Strange ran well to take 13th and 17th places in the ladies' section.
The race also incorporated the British Veteran Athletic Federation national marathon championships.
Knavesmire's Pat Boden, Margaret Metcalfe and Susan Adams collected the gold medals in the team event, while Boden also won the individual Bronze medal in the ladies' over-45 section.
