OYEZ, oyez, the town crier is helping to sell charity calendars by appearing in every picture.
York's Town Crier, John Redpath, is shouting the merits of a special 2002 calendar of scenes in the city, devised specially for St Leonard's Hospice by York artist Harry Atherton.
Each month on the calendar has a York scene, including Fairfax House, Clifford's Tower and the Minster from Petergate, Bootham Bar and the Dean Court Hotel. The town crier can be spotted in each, though he is sometimes partially hidden in the picture. At the end of each month the picture can be detached from the calendar and used as a notelet.
Judith Metcalfe, community fundraiser for St Leonard's Hospice, said: "This year's hospice calendar is very colourful and great fun - everyone's been busy spotting the town crier! We are very grateful to Harry for providing the pictures and to John to his guest appearances."
The calendars cost £3.50 and are on sale at St Leonard's Hospice shops in Acomb, Haxby, Pocklington and Tang Hall, from Barnitt's store in Colliergate, Jackie Riley Chemist, in Bishopthorpe, and from the hospice reception in Tadcaster Road.
They are also available from the hospice fundraising centre - either by calling in or by sending a cheque for £4.50 (to include postage and packing) to 14 York Road, Acomb, York YO24 4LU.
