UNION leaders are to meet Post Office bosses in response to sweeping cuts that could put 150 North Yorkshire workers out of a job, it was announced today.
Consignia, the new name for the Post Office, shocked workers by announcing it was to cut over £1 billion from its cost base.
This could lead to "some areas" losing one in ten employees over the next 18 months.
There are about 1,500 Consignia employees in North Yorkshire, with two large depots in York - Leeman Road and Huntington.
Communications Workers Union branch chairman Dave Dowling said today: "There are still no specifics whatsoever. Consignia will meet with national union leaders and after that we will know a bit more."
