Heworth 'A' continued their dominance over Bootham 'A' with a 4-3 win in the York Conservative's Club Carlsberg-Tetley Snooker League.
Ken Taylor came back from 31-4 down with a 45 break to defeat Keith Lawrence but Heworth went 3-1 up with wins by Dave Taylor, Richie Burdett (29 break) and Jason Milner. Barry Rankin and Peter Mills then won for Bootham to level the match but new captain Clive Whyte (21 break) took the last frame for Heworth.
Bootham 'B' climbed into second place with a 5-2 victory over Acomb 'B'. Their winners were Jeff Brown (23 break), Tim Fillingham, C Granger (23 break), George Long and Ray Stamp. Ken Bowser and Jeff Keen replied for Acomb.
Acomb 'A' recovered from the defeat by their 'B' team to thrash Fulford 'A' 6-1. Mick Frampton, Ian Gillies, Gerald McKenzie, Keith Myers, Trevor Ventress and Richard Harris (walk over) won for Acomb and Brian Bickerstaff was Fulford's sole winner.
Captain Ken Taylor compiled a 65 break as he guided Bootham 'A' to a 5-2 win over last year's Faber Shield Billiards champions Fulford.
The other successes were by Peter Mills, Colin Robinson (21, 22, 23 breaks) and John Woodhall. Fulford's two points were gained by Richard Stroughair, who sneaked home by seven points and Colin Neal (26 break) who defeated John Darey (41 break) by one point.
George Long's 60-point margin over Paul Clark determined the aggregate for Bootham 'B' but Acomb still won the match 4-3 as a result of successes by Mick Frampton, Ian Giles, John Hutchinson and Trevor Ventress. Ian Robinson was Bootham 'B's other winner.

event champions Bootham started off the new season with a resounding 6-1 win over Heworth who gained a point from a black ball result.
