THE public footpath alongside Clifton Methodist Church has been designated by St Peter's School as the car entrance for St Olave's and Clifton prep school.
Every morning and afternoon hundreds of cars stream down this path, all having driven along Bootham adding to the already severe congestion on this road.
The aggressive driving of the parents, which includes honking at pedestrians and dog walkers and driving close behind them while revving their engines, makes this extremely dangerous for pedestrians.
Any dog-walker bending to pick up dog mess at the entrance to the path risks their life. St Peter's headmaster says this is part of a policy to manage traffic on their campus. So it involves making it easier for parents to get their cars right to the school door at the expense of those of us who choose to walk.
What message does this send to the pupils being educated here?
I suppose it is 'cars rule, pedestrians get out of the way'.
Meanwhile, those of us who can withstand the fear of being run over, and the poisonous car fumes, will continue to fight for pedestrians.
Mrs Daphne Taylor,
St Peter's Grove,
York.
