CHILDREN have gone back to school at two "new" schools in York - Clifton Green Primary and Westfield Community Primary Schools.
Clifton Green Primary, for children aged five to 11, is the school formed with the merger of the old Kingsway Junior and Shipton Street Infant Schools in Clifton.
At the moment it is still on the two sites, but building work will take place during this year, and next year the infant children from Shipton Street will move to the Kingsway site.
The new head teacher for Clifton Green is Sheila Audsley.
Meanwhile, in Acomb, the old Westfield Junior and Infant Schools, which faced each other on a site in Askham Lane for 50 years, have merged to become Westfield Primary Community School.
With 720 pupils including the nursery children, Westfield is now the biggest primary school in York and North Yorkshire and is headed by former junior school head teacher, Mark Barnett.
Several other primary schools have new head teachers this term. Andrew Herbert, who was acting head at Skelton Primary, is now the permanent head.
Julia Elliott, former head at Stockton-on-the-Forest Primary School, is now head at Dringhouses Primary School and Jane Nellar, formerly deputy head at Clifton Without Junior, replaces her at Stockton.
Roger Highton is the new head at Dunnington CE Primary, Sue Eland now heads Poppleton Road Primary, and Lesley Barringer is at the helm at Osbaldwick Primary.
Tracey Ralph and Colm Flanagan are the new head teachers at Our Lady's and St Wilfrid's Roman Catholic Primaries, respectively.
