WHEN six-year-old Daniel Lister went out collecting conkers, he wasn't just wanting to play the time-honoured pastime of schoolboys.
He decided to go round pubs and a shop in Bishopthorpe, selling them off to help the families of New York firefighters.
His proud mum, Linda, said he had heard about the appeal set up in the wake of the terrorist atrocity, and wanted to do his bit to help.
Daniel, who lives in Dringhouses but attends Bishopthorpe Infants School, collected money at the Woodman pub, the Ebor and the Co-op store in Bishopthorpe.
She said he met with a great reaction and managed to raise £35 for the appeal.
