Selby ripped up the form-book to pull off a surprise Yorkshire One victory against York at Clifton Park on Saturday.
They fully merited their 13-3 win to give them their first victory of the season, leaving York to reflect on a poor display.
York, seeking their fourth win in five matches never got into gear as they struggled to come to terms with last-minute changes to their pack.
They were forced back in the scrums, lost countless possession and struggled at the lineouts.
For Selby, the introduction of the experienced Kev Lowery and Paul Randall to join Duncan Phillips in the back row ensured that they dominated possession to give scrum-half Matthew Smith plenty of time and space to display his sharp skills.
His opposite number, James Arkle, returning after a fortnight off after concussion, didn't have the same luxury behind a retreating pack. Consequently stand-off Mike Ford received only limited quality ball and, after a few York handling moves came to nought, seemed to lose confidence as York kicked away possession.
Selby full-back Dave Batty had an early opportunity to give his side the lead, but narrowly missed with a penalty.
The pressure though was kept on and the rampant Selby forwards drove deep into the York 22 and the ball was quickly transferred along the backs for former York winger Mike Parsonage stroll in for a try wide out.
York, driven on by some powerful surges by Lee Denham, came into the game but were unable to mount any concerted pressure as Selby continually stole possession.
A solid Selby roll and drive by the forwards saw fly-half Toby Pemberton break and feed Andy Bennett, who was brought down short, but York then transgressed and Batty kicked the penalty.
The second half saw no change in the pattern of play and, following two successive strikes against the head in the York 22, Smith forced his way over.
York, whose excellent defensive work had kept them in the game, managed to throw off the shackles and mounted a series of attacks. Eventually, Selby were caught offside and Tom Copeland reduced the arrears with a penalty.
