ON a waterlogged pitch Pocklington crashed to a heavy 32-0 defeat at Scarborough, where the home backs produced some remarkable handling in the conditions.
The surface was only just playable with pools of standing water in numerous places, but Scarborough adapted well through their taller lineout forwards and their sure-footed three-quarters, prompted by New Zealand fly-half Marcus Edwards.
Scarborough opened the scoring with a back row try on the quarter hour and they pulled clear to a 19-point interval lead through two long-range tries from the backs, both started from inside their own half.
It was not Pocklington's day and when they tried to run the ball from their own line at the start of the second half they simply presented Scarborough with a further score.
Pocklington struggled on and had their occasional moments in attack, but a further Scarborough counter attack from their own territory produced a final try and they wrapped things up with a late penalty.
