I WAS so glad to read the letter from Mr Squires (September 24) praising the staff of York District Hospital. Having just spent a few days in the maternity ward following the birth of my daughter, I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Squires' comments.
Amid shortages of staff and significant numbers of births, the nurses, midwives and supporting staff were fantastic.
Given all the pressures and strain that NHS staff have to face on a daily basis, the care, dedication and professionalism of the nursing and midwifery staff at York District Hospital should be commended.
My husband and I were given a wonderful and caring start to our lives as new parents and we are sincerely grateful to all of the staff in delivery and maternity at the hospital.
