YORK Wasps have revealed that Denzil Webster is to be replaced as club president by a more high-profile personality.
Chief executive Ann Garvey said the presidency of the club was reviewed each year and the board have "reluctantly" decided not to keep on former Wasps and Castleford player Webster, who has been president since the mid-1990s. The name of his successor is yet to be announced.
"We have been approached by a high-profile name regarding the possibility of becoming president and with the club on an upturn we feel it needs a high-profile person," she said.
"The board have sadly had to inform Denzil Webster that we will not be renewing his presidency.
"He has been a great asset to the club and is a popular man within the rugby league world. He has done a lot of good work for the club, as has his wife Doreen, and it is with much sadness and regret that this board decision has been made."
