Farmers and growers in the Ryedale area are being encouraged to enter the NFU President's Awards for 2002, in spite of the current foot and mouth disease and financial problems besetting the industry.
Ben Gill, of Easingwold, the president said: "The awards have been known as the annual 'Oscars' of the farming industry. We aim to encourage farmers and growers who are determined to move forward despite the problems in the agricultural industry. It is important that we let people know how hard farmers are working to achieve high standards to produce quality food."
Regional winners of the last awards included Belinda and Will Terry of Ravenscar, Rosey Dunn of York and Raydale Preserves of Hawes.
Closing date for entries is November 15. Application forms are available from NFU Callfirst on (0870) 8400638 and the York-based regional office in York, on (01904) 451550.
