A MEETING of North Yorkshire residents concerned at the global military build up after the tragic events in America has been thrown open to the public.
The terrible events of two weeks ago have led organisers of the Pickering Justice and Peace Group to open their doors to a wider audience.
Organiser David Hoyle, warden of the Friends Meeting House, Pickering, said: "There seems to be a great need for people to be able to come together and be able to express a common voice.
"There is a determination to address the crisis that the world currently faces.
"Under international law we must bring these people to justice, but we are greatly concerned that military action will magnify the violence," he said.
A petition placed outside David's house at the weekend urging Tony Blair to pursue diplomatic channels was signed by 75 people.
The meeting will take place at the Friends Meeting House, Castlegate, Pickering, on Friday at 7.30pm.
Meanwhile, York campaigners against war in Afghanistan are to hold a public meeting in the city.
The meeting is to be held on Friday in the Priory Street Centre. It will start at 7.30 pm.
