PICKERING Town's remarkable unbeaten run continued as they knocked Selby Town out of the FA Vase in extra-time in their second qualifying round clash.

The Pikes have now gone 23 games unbeaten in all competitions, their last defeat coming against Hall Road Rangers in the Northern Counties East League division one clash back in February.

Jimmy Reid's men have since won promotion to the Premier Division - which is currently headed by Selby.

The Robins, however, have been unable to turn their league form into the cups, following up their FA Cup defeat by Gretna last week with a 2-0 Vase loss at the Recreation Ground.

A double substitution for the Pikes in normal time paved the way for their success as Reid threw Stefan Zoll and former York City striker Mark Wood into the fray little more than ten minutes from time.

Defences held firm until ace marksman Zoll broke the deadlock two minutes into extra-time.

Selby's fate was sealed in the second-half of the added 30 minutes when Zoll was brought crashing down in the Robins' penalty area.

Joe Connor scored from the penalty spot in the 110th minute for the Pikes.

"It was a typical, hard-fought derby but Stefan's trickery did the business for us," said Reid.

In another all Northern Counties East League clash, Harrogate Railway also maintained their excellent run of form by knocking out Brodsworth Miner's Welfare.

All the goals in the 3-1 win for Railway came in an eventful first half.

Ian McLean tucked away a fifth minute penalty for Harrogate only for Mark Alimunski to equalise five minutes later.

However, McLean struck again for Railway before Ian Hart sealed the win just before the interval.

There was deep disappointment for Tadcaster Albion in the Vase.

Wayne Day's side squandered a two-goal lead to Hatfield Main and went out of the competition.

Goals from Darren Wilson and Steve Batley inside the opening 16 minutes should have laid the foundations for victory.

However, Hatfield stormed back to draw level before the interval through Shaun Lanaghan and Jason Miller.

Hatfield's fightback was completed and Albion's misery confirmede just on the hour markn when Jonathan Groom swept home for the visitors.

Goole's sticky run of form continued as they also went out, losing 3-1 at home to Sheffield-based Hallam.

Goole are poised to unveil former York City defender Steve Richards and his former Scarborough team-mate Mitch Cook, who also had a spell in charge at the McCain Stadium, as their new managerial duo following the sacking of Peter Daniel earlier this month.

However, the likely shake-up did little to transform Goole's fortunes on Saturday as Hallam players scored all four goals.

Even with Hallam's helping hand, when Tim Willis put through his own goal, Goole remained second-best.

At least their was better news for Selby back in the NCEL premier.

Alfreton Town's hopes of taking advantage of the Robins involvement in the FA Vase failed to materialise as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Armthorpe Welfare.
