I WOULD like to clarify a matter raised in your article "People 'not aware of rights'" (September 12).
Conviction for TV Licence evasion does not carry a prison sentence. Anyone found guilty of using a TV without a licence risks a fine of up to £1,000. Non-payment of a fine can lead to imprisonment, which is a matter for the courts, not TV Licensing.
We have requested that the National Association for Citizens Advice Bureaux withdraws this question from its research.
