YORK Acorn Running Club's men's team produced another good performance in the Yorkshire Veterans League at Honley, near Huddersfield.
They have maintained their chase for second place in the league with two races remaining.
Currently behind Wakefield Harriers, Acorn have almost certainly been overtaken by Holmfirth after a dominant performance by the host club, who placed their four scorers in the top 15 last Sunday.
However, Acorn, who were led home by Andy Normandale, are still very much in the hunt overall.
Holmfirth runner Shaw won the five-mile race which included steep ascents and descents over woodland terrain, with Knavesmire Harriers' Neil Strange third. This means Strange is almost certain to take the overall title after a brilliant league season.
The Acorn team counters were: 6th Andy Normandale, 13th Jerry Barnes, 30th John Duston, 40th Les Burton with Mike Hetherton 55th and Paul Young 77th making up the squad.
Barnes has given himself a chance of a top three placing in the overall results.
Acorn's Dave Elliott led 15 team-mates home in the Great North Run in 1 hour 37 minutes 10 seconds with club colleague Jemy Jos just 26 seconds behind. Next for the club was Jim Benson 1hr 42min 12sec followed by Leslie Shaw and over 50 veteran Jim Cowen, 1hr 52mins 41secs.
Other Acorn times were: Gerry Orchard 1-56-19, Julie Bushell 1-56-19, Bill Clayton 1-59-33, Richard Johnson 2-03-10, Julie Hills 2-16-22, Melanie Stakes-Young 2-19-00, Pat Cole 2-19-00, Janet Gibson 2-24-16, Carol Dickinson 2-24-16, Andy Heppell 2-25-32, Geoffrey Hope 2-29-46.
