YORK Wasps are to have a collection during the first game of the forthcoming season to aid families of the bereaved following the terrorist strikes in New York.
The idea was put forward by supporter Norma Beavers after the club revealed their new shirt sponsors were the New York Economic Development Council.
She was one of about 130 supporters who gathered at Huntington Stadium to hear first hand news of the Wasps' new sponsorship deal and new coach.
Wasps vice-chairman Russell Greenfield said: "It might only be a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but we want to do it to show our support. She put the idea forward and we all agree it's a good idea."
Meanwhile, the club are reminding supporters that this weekend is the deadline for tickets for travel and entry to the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, Manchester, on October 13. The club are providing a bus for local fans, with tickets, covering both transport and admission to the game, costing £23. Pick-up and departure times are to be arranged.
Anyone interested should call the club on 01904 634636.
