POLICE investigating the murder of York man Michael Brolly are to speak to drinkers and clubbers - one week on from the brutal attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Barlow said today a team of officers will interview potential eye-witnesses this Sunday afternoon and evening.

Police believe many people who were in the city centre last weekend will be out again this Sunday.

DCI Barlow also revealed that some people thought to have been involved in the incident - but not Mr Brolly - had attended a christening in York hours before the attack.

He said police would eventually be seeking to interview people who attended the christening.

One eye-witness told the Evening Press today she saw police parked around the corner while Mr Brolly was being attacked. Jenny Territt said she was walking home along Coney Street from the City Screen cinema when she saw the police vehicle parked at the Market Street junction.

In Low Ousegate she saw a man lying on the pavement being kicked by a woman, watched by a large crowd. She was concerned why police were not then intervening.

But DCI Barlow said officers went swiftly as soon as the attack was reported to them. Meanwhile, the Evening Press has discovered that a warning about Mr Brolly and a large group of males was sent to city centre pubs minutes before the attack.

The message - "advise do not admit" - was paged to licensees.

Mr Brolly had once been excluded from city pubs, but was not banned at the time of the attack.

lJason Rodney Hodgson, aged 32, of St Catherine's Place, Holgate Road, York, has been charged with using or threatening unlawful violence towards other persons.

The case was adjourned at York Magistrates Court today until Friday, October 19, and Hodgson's conditional bail was extended.

lMichael Brolly had been due to appear before magistrates today accused of breaching a 12-month community rehabilitation order imposed in July.
