THE Brideshead factor has worn off, and so Castle Howard needs new ways to make sure it is revisited.
Richard Kemp, the man who installed a time machine in Jorvik during its £5 million revamp, is in charge of keeping the tourists coming.
This brief is perhaps even trickier than recreating Viking York: Mr Kemp has to liven up the Castle Howard experience without detracting from its stateliness.
He has begun by bringing the building's architect, Sir John Vanburgh, back to life as tour guide. By Mr Kemp's standards, this is a decidedly low-key start. We will watch developments with interest.
