CRAYKE beat ten-man Huby 1-0 in a keen derby in the opening round of the Saturday FA Senior cup.

York and District League Premier Division side Crayke went close after ten minutes when Simon Wilson had a dipping shot from 40 yards and 15 minutes later Mark Hutchinson's goal-bound shot was well saved by the Huby goalkeeper, Paul Moore.

Crayke continued to be the stronger side, but Andrew Metcalfe missed a gilt-edged chance to net for First Division Huby just before the interval.

Ten minutes into the second half Crayke were reduced to ten men when Simon Wilson was dismissed for a second bookable offence. However, within a minute of the dismissal Crayke had taken the lead through Mark Hutchinson following a goalmouth skirmish. Huby came more into the game and it was only strong defending by Crayke, with captain Martin Pearson outstanding, which saw them go into the next round 1-0.

League champions Old Malton overcame Haxby Town 4-0 with goals from Neil Wilford, Phil Hill, Mick Henderson and Darren Rushworth.

In the all-Premier tie at Bishopthorpe the home side took the lead after 15 minutes against Huntington when David Allison netted a disputed penalty, but within three minutes Huntington were back on level terms through Jack Wilson, following good play by Paul Pemberton.

Early in the second-half Bishopthorpe regained the lead with a 20-yard drive from Stephen Purdy, but once again Huntington struck back, through Wilson, to level the scores.

Huntington pressed for a winner, but with a minute remaining the winning goal was scored by Bishopthorpe's Spencer Martin who netted in the top corner to give his side a 3-2 victory.

Norwich Union and Civil Service had to go into extra time to decide the winner, when Mat Deveraux rounded the keeper to net the all-important goal to give his side a 3-2 triumph.

Dringhouses proved far too strong for St John's College when, with goals from Mark Scoreby, John Lake, Jamie Backhouse and Andy Barkway, they recorded a 4-0 victory.

In the FA Saturday Junior Cup, holders Stamford Bridge were pushed all the way by Heslington.

Jimmy Frary gave Heslington the lead after 20 minutes but, by half-time, Stamford Bridge were level when Nick Rank slotted home from 15 yards.

Early in the second half it was Frary who netted again to restore Heslington's lead, but with 20 minutes of normal time remaining Rank levelled the scores by shooting through the Heslington keeper's legs.

In extra time both sides missed chances and the game went into a penalty shoot out which was won 4-1 by Stamford Bridge who were indebted to goalkeeper Matthew Waller for an excellent penalty save.

The all-Beckett League tie saw Slingsby overcome Duncombe Park after extra time in a game well refereed by Brian Holmes.

Slingsby took the lead with a close range shot by Darren Dyer after ten minutes, but a second-half goal by the Helmsley side forced the game into an extra 30 minutes, where with goals by Carl Biggins and Nigel Allen, Slingsby produced a 3-1 scoreline.

The biggest change round of the day was at Ampleforth, where the home side were 3-0 down to Marton-cum-Grafton at half-time, but finished up remarkable 8-4 victors with two goals each from Dave Wallinger, Andy Walshaw and Kevin Wright, with other goals coming from Ben Wall and Peter Banks.

In a seven-goal thriller Heworth overcame Fulford, who had taken a two-goal advantage through Alan Thompson and Simon Bell, to win by four goals to three with goals from Jamie Smith (2), Dennis Caddie and Brendan Wright with John Durham scoring Fulford's third goal.

Copmanthorpe went behind to a late goal from Stewart Barker in their match against Barmby Moor, but had squared the game through Dominic Gill by the end of 90 minutes.

Extra time was just as tight with Barmby Moor regaining the lead through Sam Hobson only for Gill to cancel it out yet again.

But in the penalty shoot out which followed Copmanthorpe were no match for Barmby Moor who scored three penalties to Copmanthorpe's one.

In the FA Saturday Reserve Cup, Nestl Rowntree had to fight all the way to overcome a plucky Wilberfoss.

Alex Pearson put Rowntree into a first-half lead, and the game looked all over when early in the second-half Robert Blake netted number two when following up a missed penalty, but a great fight back by Wilberfoss with two goals by Jonathan Parkin, the first from the halfway line, sent the game into extra time, when a second opportunist goal by Blake gave victory to Rowntree 3-2.

Dunnington recorded a well-deserved victory over Rufforth United 4-0 with two goals by Paul Fowler and a goal apiece from Ben Small and Steve Wains, the youngest and oldest members of the Dunnington team.
