TOP chess player Richard Palliser gave a simultaneous display in York after his fine display in the World Junior Championships in Athens.
He took on 18 opponents at the same time and the York players posed strong opposition, clocking up three wins.
The victories were achieved by Peter Cloudsdale, Paul Johnson and John Knowles and draws were forced by Paul Hopwood, Jon Griffith and David
Findlay.

Palliser was seeded 45th in Greece in a competition for players under 21.
In the first round he beat top seed, Ni Hua and went on to win a further four games. He drew six matches and lost only two to earn eight points and finish equal 14th.
The result should secure him the International Master title.
