Heworth 'A' kick-started their Yorkshire League division four season with a good 34-20 win at Scarborough Pirates.
Once Heworth's new players found cohesion after a sterile opening quarter, they started to create chances and scored several good tries. The last quarter saw them tire due to a lack of match fitness, but they held on to register a fine victory.
Lee Clark was excellent, ably supported by Stuart Brown and Tony Fella, and with youngsters Gary Watkinson, Neil Chadwick and Matt Corr doing well, hopes are high for the campaign.
Tries came from Carl Potter (2), Danny Sinclair, Graham Brown, Corr, Clark and Chris Hammerton, with Potter adding two goals.
A gritty performance by Heworth Under-15s saw them beat Crigglestone 34-16 despite having only a bare 13 players which was reduced to 12 when Sam Johnson suffered a first-half injury.
Heworth got on top early on and soon built a commanding lead which they worked hard to defend in the second half against the big Crigglestone forwards.
And Hall was impressive with Liam Stagnell, Paul Thompson and Matt Derry catching the eye.
Tries were shared between Derry (4), Thompson, Stagnell and Hall with goals from Thompson (2) and Sean Coulson.
