A MAN who sparked a police alert in York after he was seen firing a handgun surrendered himself after reading a report of the incident in the Evening Press.
Officers spent several hours patrolling the Clifton bridge area of York after a member of the public reported seeing a man shooting in the Clifton Ings area at about 5pm on Monday. A number of spent 8mm blank cartridges were found at the scene. Police said the man had handed himself in after reading a report in the paper.
Officers have spoken to the man, who had been using a blank firing handgun, but he will not face any formal charges.
