YORK Acorn ARL Under-13s produced the performance of the weekend when winning 24-14 at
Featherstone.
Both defences were on top until Acorn full-back Matthew Gray crossed for the first try, with Featherstone hitting back with a converted score.
Acorn regained the lead when influential scrum-half Joe Budd chipped and chased to touch down in the corner but again their lead was short lived as the hosts went ahead 10-8 with an unconverted try.
The power of Acorn forwards Karl Hutton, Tom Speck and Chris Richardson tired the home defence and allowed Gray to cross for his second try which gave Acorn a 12-10 interval lead.
With Budd and Wesley Potter orchestrating attacks, Gray completed his hat-trick with a try goaled by centre Scott Jackson.
Again Featherstone hit back to make it 18-14 before Acorn struck the match winning blow with an individual try by Budd to which Jackson added the extras.
Debutant prop Chris Richardson was the man of the match after an all-action display.
