BISHOP Bertram Herlong is a former chaplain at St Paul's Chapel, directly opposite the World Trade Centre.
He has been counselling and helping people at the Minster come to terms with the terrible events at the World Trade Centre.
"This illustrates the power of evil," he told the Evening Press.
"The unspeakable and unthinkable has happened and we must pray for the injured, the trapped, the bereaved and those who are helping them.
"This is a very difficult time for us all and is something that will live in the minds of the Americans for years to come."
The Bishop, who is over in England on a sabbatical, expressed his particular regret at the news that the chaplain to the New York Fire Department was among those who perished.
He also spoke of his concern for two workers in the New York financial district who were "like sons".
He has not been able to contact them.
