Ovington all-rounder John Sharples decimated the Heworth attack with a blistering 140 as his team ran up the season's highest score of 316 for 6.

Jon Goodway contributed 62 in an opening stand of 170 and Andy Holmes was unbeaten on 58 when the innings closed. T Oliver took three wickets and Matt Bateman two. Jonathon Bell propped up the Heworth reply with 46 and they were making steady progress but all this changed when Sharples came on to bowl, taking 3 for 21. Stockton & Hopgrove elected to bat against Norwich Union and were going along gently at just under four an over with Jason Chinnion making the bulk of their 95 for 3 with a patient 61. The run rate shot up to eight an over with the arrival of Richard Kerrison in the 28th over before he finally fell, caught off the last ball when trying to take the total to 200. But 196 for 7 was too big a target for NU who always had wickets in hand but could never raise their own rate rate sufficiently to threaten the Villagers.

Having won the Division Two title Drax eased off in their last game against Clifton Alliance who inched through from the final ball. John Finch 26, and Gary Slaywe 21 top scored for Drax in their 152 for 8. Martin fell for 43 while Ray went on to make an unbeaten 77. Malcolm Innes, also not out, contributed 35 in just 20 balls, in a stand of 67 with his skipper. Glynn Botterill's opening spell of six overs, in which he returned a season's best of 4 for 10, left the Westow innings in disarray. The Post Office took maximum points to gain promotion to the first division whilet Westow were relegated to the third.

Keith Pepper's second successive unbeaten century led Fulfordgate to 209 for 3 against Wheldrake. Neil Pigg helping his skipper add 128 for third wicket. Steve Bygott, 6 for 28, gave Thorpe little respite as they fell for 103.

Pete Buck, (29) and Andy Beesting (24) gave Kelfield a reasonable start in the relegation battle against Thixendale taking the score to 49 for 1. At this point Mike England entered the attack and in nine overs took 6 for 16 as Kelfield collapsed to 86 all out. Thixendale seized their chance to stave off relegation at their visitors expense with an opening partnership of 57 before James Metcalfe was dismissed for 21. Les Milburn carrying his bat for 59 as Thixendale eased to safety.

Duffield extracted maximum batting points at Burn with openers David Beilby and Trevor Britain racing to 232 without being parted. Beilby reached 73, including five fours and two sixes. Burn reached a respectable 160 for 7.

Not even a tremendous all round performance from Nadeem Sadiq could save Askham Bryan from defeat at Hirst United. A hard hitting 92 was followed by 4 for 42 but Hirst's all-round strength won the day for them.

Richard Waites, with a career-best 9 for 12 from nine overs saw off Huntington for 43 as the University Staff clinched promotion from Division Four.
