A YORK man has appeared before the city's magistrates on eight charges of robbery and one of attempted robbery.
Alistair Leslie Campbell, 33, of Garfield Terrace, Leeman Road, is accused of repeatedly using violence to steal cash from a Big Issue seller in the city centre.
He is charged with robbing Paul Burwell of between £5 and £35 cash on eight separate occasions between June 20 and September 7 and of attempting to rob Mr Burwell on Saturday.
Magistrates sent the case to York Crown Court for trial and released Campbell on bail on condition that he lives at an address outside York, does not visit York apart from to attend court and does not contact a prosecution witness.
Campbell will appear before a judge at York Crown Court on September 17.
