Colin Shafto won gold and set a new United Kingdom record at the British Veterans' Decathlon and Heptathlon Championships at Sheffield.
Finally free from the hamstring injury which has marred his performances all summer, including the World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, the Nestl
Rowntree athlete won the M65 Decathlon title.
On the way he broke the United Kingdom record for the 100metres hurdles with a time of 17.32 seconds.
Shafto, of Sand Hole Lane, Shipton-by-Beningbrough, trailed last year's champion David Burton (Steyning) by 33 points at the end of the first day.
But his record-breaking hurdles run in the first event of the second day gave him a substantial lead.
The York athlete maintained his lead until after the final event, the 1500m, to finish with a winning score of 6,151points.
