YORK Acorn 'A' continued their 100 per cent start to their Yorkshire League division three campaign with a devastating 72-22 home win over Shaw Cross 'A'.
The victory was even more remarkable with Acorn having to make seven changes from the team that beat East Leeds 'A' 58-10 the previous week.
Acorn's win was based upon an outstanding captain's display by scrum-half and man of the match Paul Sawyer, who received excellent support from second rower Gary Taylor and ever-improving hooker Derek Arthur.
Acorn's glut of tries came from Dave Murray (2), Kenny Hilton, Tom Galloway, Lee Brundett (2), Taylor, Paul Payne (3), Leigh Marshall , Andy Gargan and Sawyer (2), who also kicked nine goals.
Selby Warriors opened their account in the same division by being awarded an 18-0 home victory over Queenswood, who could not not raise a team.
As further punishment Queenswood will also forfeit home advantage in the return game.
New Earswick All Blacks are finding the early going tough in the senior division.
They were beaten 26-12 at home in a disappointing display against Drighlington.
All Blacks started well and were on top for the opening 20 minutes.
They went ahead after 15 minutes when Carl Barrow charged in from 40 yards. Carl Pallister added the extra points.
But by half-time Drighlington were 22-6 ahead and, although All Blacks won the second half courtesy of a 30-yard solo effort from Adie Robinson, converted by Pallister, they already have a bit of catching up to do on the divisional leaders.
York Groves gained their first win in the Pennine League against Bradford outfit Wyke at Burdyke.
York Groves stormed into the lead with a well-taken try by loose forward Martin Simpson and went on to win 19-8.
A John Thompson drop goal, followed by a fine individual effort by Paul Marshall, put the Terriers in control and they led 15-4 at the interval after another Simpson try and a Thompson conversion.
After the break York Groves started well with prop Andy Starkey surging over to touch down but they let slip several chances through poor handling and missed the opportunity to run up a bigger score.
The game was marred by an arm injury to Darren Watson playing in his first game for the York Groves.
Prop Simon Moat and scrum- half John Thompson shared the man-of-the-match award with fine displays by winger Paul Marshall and new signing, Howard Cooper.
