WEB-surfing tourists of the world can now cruise in York at the touch of a button.
YorkBoat is winning business over the internet by providing customers with a new on-line ticket-buying service for its trips on the Ouse - an idea refined by advice organisation Business Link North Yorkshire.
A new e-commerce system has been integrated with YorkBoat's website so that visitors anywhere on earth can buy riverboat sightseeing tickets by credit or debit card, in advance and at discount prices.
YorkBoat, which carries more than 200,000 passengers a year, operates a range of guided river trips and cruises on the river.
The firm sought the help of Business Link North Yorkshire to develop the e-commerce system after an increase in the numbers of visitors to its website seeking information.
Business Link's technology adviser Martin Walsh helped Sarah Porteous, YorkBoat's marketing assistant, to consider the wider issues of e-commerce and to refine its ideas.
Sarah said: "It was very useful to talk to someone with such IT knowledge who was able to give impartial advice. Martin was also great at chasing everything up and keeping the whole project on track."
