After being members of the York and District Senior Cricket League for 38 years Dunnington claimed the league title for the first time.

The star-studded Dunnington ranks, who include ex-West Indies' aces Alvin Kallicharran and Collis King, plus former Yorkshire County Cricket Club batsman Simon Kellett, who skippers the side, lifted the Hunters the Estate Agent York and District Senior League premier division crown in authoritative fashion when they defeated Heworth by nine wickets on the final day of the season.

Heworth were swept aside by pace ace Joe Grant, whose five for 52 tally took his seasonal haul to 62 wickets.

King meanwhile, weighed in with five for 24 to also cement his place at the top of the bowling averages.

That left hapless Heworth all out for a modest 98 runs.

In reply Dunnington lost Hamid Khan for 38, but skipper Kellett led by supreme xample by hitting an unbeaten 53 to enable Dunnington to record a nine-wicket win in just the small matter of 18.3 overs.

The trophy was presented to the winners by League secretary Albert Pattison.
