HAVE-A-GO Harrogate produced a fine display to wallop visiting Waterloo 48-32 in their National League division two encounter.

With the back row outstanding the pack was responsible for all but one of the eight tries as coach Ralph Zoing's men made it two wins out of two.

Number 8 Richard Wade crashed over for two tries for the second week on the bounce, while there were two for man-of-the-match John Dudley on the blindside flank, with open-side forward Mike Worden also on the scoresheet.

New prop Rich Melton, signed from Leeds Tykes, got on the end of a 25-yard rolling maul and there was a penalty try as the under-pressure Waterloo fowards dropped a scrum on their line.

The line-out, often a source of trouble last season, worked well with Peter Taylor and Tim Fforde outfoxing the Waterloo jumpers. In the loose foraging was fierce and competent, proving too much for Waterloo for most of the match.

Another newcomer, New Zealand wing Jeremy Marr, also recruited from Leeds Tykes, was the only back to manage to cross the line. Stand-off Lee Cholewa, whose coaching from one-time England full-back Simon Hodgkinson looks to be paying dividends, kicked four conversions.

Waterloo, relegated last season, were a long way second-best, but when they had the ball in hand their three-quarters showed some neat touches which ended in tries for Dave Telford, Craig Aikman and Kart Temmen.

Captain Tony Handley converted one of the Waterloo tries and kicked five penalties.

Harrogate know that the key to a successful promotion push relies on consistency.

The first two tests put before them have been passed with flying colours, particularly with the pack in top form.
