A YORK father today told of the horror of being threatened and robbed at knife-point by two skinheads - in broad daylight.

The terrifying incident took place, ironically, along a snicket off Thief Lane in York, at about 11.20am yesterday, while the man was on his way to pick up his wife.

The 31-year-old man, who was too frightened to be named, said the men "came out of nowhere" and one of them pulled out a blue Stanley knife.

"He said he would slash me unless I gave him my money," said the victim.

"I thought of my wife and son and had no hesitation in handing over my wallet, even though it contained my wages.

"The other man ripped off my watch, before they ran off.

"It was terrifying and happened in broad daylight, which makes it even worse."

Police said the robbers got away with £155.

A spokeswoman for York Police said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the man and we would like any witnesses to come forward."

The knife-carrying man is described as white, about 23 years old, 5ft 8ins tall, clean shaven and of medium build. He spoke with a local accent. He was wearing blue jeans, white Adidas trainers and a sports top.

The second man is described as white, also about 23 years old, 5ft 6ins tall, clean-shaven, of stocky build and with a local accent. He was wearing black jeans, white trainers and a green and blue T-shirt.

The victim, who works in Tadcaster, added: "It's a good job I've paid my rent this week, otherwise we would be in trouble."
