A FUNERAL mass will be held at Ampleforth Abbey at noon on Monday for Father Cyril Brooks, who, as reported earlier this week, died there last Monday.

The mass will be conducted by the Abbot of Ampleforth, the Rt Rev Timothy Wright, and will be followed by interment.

Father Cyril was one of the key figures behind the successful ten-day One Voice ecumenical mission to the York area in 1992.

Among those attending the funeral will be two men who were joint chairmen of One Voice with Father Cyril - the Rev David Mullins, former minister of Central Methodist Church, York, who will travel up from Muswell Hill, London, and Canon John Young, York Diocesan Evangelist.

Five coaches will bring people from the Roman Catholic parish of St Mary's, Leyland (Lancashire), where Father Cyril, a Benedictine monk, had served as an assistant priest since August 1996.

Father Cyril, who had also previously served at Easingwold, had returned to Ampleforth Abbey a week before he died to recuperate after an operation to deal with intestinal problems.
