BLACKSMITHS Arms from division two overcame first division Nestl Rowntree 4-2 after extra time to reach round two of the John Smith's Bitter Cup.

In the only all first division clash Volunteers beat Zafs 6-3 led by a Daz Callaghan hat-trick.

First division newcomers FC Magnet lost to third division Bishopthorpe 4-3, while a superb five-goal display from Neil Yeowatt gave Northern Spirit a thrilling 6-5 win over Raskelf Rovers. The winning goal came in the last minute from Dave Wright with a delicate lob over the Raskelf goalkeeper.
