EXCELLENT cueball control by Kevin Hopper dominated the final of the Of the York and District Snooker Association Knockout Handicap Competition against Dave Reeves at the Cueball Club.
The INL player quickly pegged back the handicap deficit by potting five reds and four blacks, to make a 33 which proved to be the highest of the competition.
Hopper then followed up with a 30-break which left Reeves, making his competition debut, needing snookers going onto the colours. After a short safety exchange Reeves conceded for Hopper to win 84-40.
Hopper had beaten Wayne Geohegan 83-35 in the semi-final and included a break of 24.
The other semi-final saw Reeves defeat Steve Gregson 55-15, a break of 28 by Reeves was the deciding factor as he went onto win.
The first round saw breaks of 27 by Gregson and Geoghegan respectively.
Gregson continued his good form in the quarter finals by compiling a 24-break in his 70-7 victory against Mark Dodds.
Reeves set off well in his quarter-final against Pete Musson, who responded with a 25, only to lose out on a respotted black, 77-70.
All players who lost in the first round were entered into a free 'Plate' knockout competition.
It was won by Phil Hart, who beat association chairman Phil Anderson, who had built up a good lead.
Hart fought back with a 24 break only for Anderson to go ahead once more onto the colours. Hart picked off the remaining balls one by one including a fine long pink and difficult blacks to win the frame 70-69.
The next competition will be held at the Cueball Club on Wednesday, September 26, 7.15pm start. Contact Pete Musson on (01904) 416087 as soon as possible to book an entry.
