IN a city which prides itself on its great history, some parts of York have changed almost beyond recognition.

Anyone looking at this week's picture would be hard pushed to find anything the same today.

The main picture, taken around 1960, shows Station Road and looks down towards Rougier Street and George Hudson Street.

Housing some of the Sixties' more intriguing motor vehicles, the car park would soon be demolished to make way for the Yorkshire Insurance Company building, now a centre for Norwich Union.

The imposing building on the far right of the picture is still railway offices, now occupied by Railtrack, but that is about the only constant in this busy scene.

Copies of pictures from the past can be ordered from the Evening Press.

A print measuring 7inx5in costs £5 with 50p postage and packing.

A 10x7 costs £7 (50p p&p), a 12x8 costs £10 (£1 p&p) and 16x10 costs £17 (£1 p&p). All sizes are approximate.

Payment, by cheque, should be made to York & County Press and sent to Anne Wood, Photographers, Evening Press, 76-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN. Alternatively, call photosales on (01904) 567135.
